10-30-2010 11:43 BJT Special Report:Wen attends 17th ASEAN Summit |

HANOI, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- The following are highlights of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's activities in Vietnam on Friday.

Wen attended the 13th China-Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit at which both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership and comprehensive cooperation. Wen meanwhile offered a six-point proposal to further enhance such a relationship.

The proposals include pushing forward the sustainable, sound and rapid development of economic relations and trade; promoting the interconnectivity of road, rail and water transport networks, of telecommunications and of energy pipelines and power grids; shoring up joint efforts in opening and integrating their financial and capital markets to better finance bilateral cooperation; further deepening agro-economic cooperation; further investing in sustainable development and cooperating in climate change, poverty reduction and disaster relief; and continuing to broaden cooperation in culture, education and tourism and expand youth exchanges.

Addressing the 13th ASEAN plus Three Summit between 10 ASEAN members and China, Japan and South Korea, Wen made a four-point proposal for strengthening cooperation in priority areas between the members, including the acceleration of establishment of East Asia Free Trade Area, the deepening of financial cooperation, the promotion of cooperation in other fields and the strengthening of communication and coordination on major international issues.

During a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Wen said the world was not only large enough for the development side-by-side of both countries, but offered enough areas in which both sides could cooperate.

He said China was willing to work with India to give full play to bilateral economic and trade cooperation, and strive for a continuous growth of trade and investment by enlarging the areas and innovating the forms of their cooperation.

When meeting with his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong, Wen said, since China and Singapore established relations 20 years ago, the two countries have carried out fruitful exchanges and cooperation in various fields in a friendly, cooperative and pioneering spirit.

China welcomes Singaporean enterprises to take part in the development of China's northeastern and western regions, Wen said, adding bilateral economic and trade cooperation should be further expanded by way of making full use of favorable conditions brough about by the China-ASEAN free trade area and China-Singapore free trade agreements.

On the same day, Wen also met with South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan to discuss issues of common concern.

The three countries should attach strategic importance to the cooperation among them and steer it in the right direction, and efforts should be made to constantly push forward the cooperation by promoting dialogues, boosting mutual trust and resolving differences, he said.
