Chinese ambassador says premier's Tajikistan visit to drive bilateral relations

11-24-2010 16:50 BJT Special Report:Wen Visits Russia, Tajikistan |

DUSHANBE, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's official visit on Nov. 24-25 will be a great driving force for improved relations between China and Tajikistan, Chinese ambassador Fan Xianrong told Chinese reporters here Tuesday.

Tajikistan was a friendly neighboring nation to China and the two sides' relations had been booming in many fields as a result of promotional efforts by leaders of both countries, Fan said.

China-Tajikistan cooperation in trade, transportation, telecommunications, power and infrastructure had been promoted over recent years, and the two also shared a promising future in coordination in the agriculture sector, the ambassador said.

With China's assistance, some important projects had been implemented in Tajikistan, such as construction of a highway from Dushanbe to Chanak connecting the country's north and south. These projects had brought tangible benefits to the local people, Fan said.

As the Chinese and Tajik economies were complementary to each other, the two countries were now making plans for launching many more and larger cooperation projects. However, China's assistance to Tajikistan did not come with any political conditions, the ambassador pointed out.

As for cultural and educational exchange, Fan said many young Tajiks had great interest in learning Chinese and, accordingly, there had been rapid development of local Confucius Institutes in scale and facility. In recent years, more Tajik people were seeking opportunities to visit or study in China.

Fan said, in the field of security cooperation, the two countries shared a common interest in combating the three evils of terrorism, separatism and extremism. They had launched close coordination under the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which had made a big contribution to peaceful and stable development in the region.

Fan said relations between China and Tajikistan were a vivid manifestation of China's policy of friendship and partnership with neighboring countries.
