ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- The China-Russia relations of strategic cooperation and partnership were witnessing balanced and rapid development, said a joint communique signed by the two countries on Tuesday.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin signed the joint communique after the 15th regular meeting between the two heads of governments in St. Petersburg.

The two countries boasted a high degree of mutual trust, increasingly rich understanding of bilateral relations, and increasingly broadened and deepened cooperation in all fields, the communique said.

The development of China-Russia ties not only brought substantial benefits for the two peoples, but also made a significant contribution to safeguarding world peace and stability, it said.

The two sides believed that, in the context of the current complex and volatile international situation, deepening their relations of strategic cooperation and partnership in a comprehensive way was of great and real significance.

The two sides stressed that mutual support on issues concerning each other's core interests was the core of China-Russia strategic cooperation and also an important manifestation of bilateral mutual trust.

The two sides would continue to unswervingly support each other in following their own path of development and revitalization, firmly support each other in efforts to safeguard national sovereignty, independence, security and territorial integrity, and oppose interference in other countries' internal affairs, the communique said.

The two countries agreed to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between China and Russia next year to further fortify the idea that the two nations were friends from generation to generation.

The two premiers expressed satisfaction over the achievements in bilateral cooperation in such fields as the economy and trade, energy, people-to-people exchanges and culture, the communique said.

The two premiers witnessed the signing of 12 cooperation agreements on customs, railway, civil aviation and cultural exchanges.

Despite fallout from the international financial crisis, the economic and trade cooperation of China and Russia had momentum for sound development, the communique said.
