Militants destroy bridge in Pakistani tribal area

11-25-2010 14:22 BJT

ISLAMABAD, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Unidentified militants destroyed a link-bridge on Thursday morning in sub-district Bara of Khyber tribal area in the troubled northwest Pakistan, official sources told Xinhua.

The expensive bridge was built on Bara-Terah road in Nalakhor area to facilitate land communication in the rugged area, said local sources, adding that people are facing immense difficulty in commuting to Bara area and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial capital Peshawar due to the subversion.

After an impasse of a few weeks the insurgent militants have resumed their subversive activities from last week. However, destruction of a bridge vital for keeping the land communication alive in the difficult mountainous terrain is probably the first of its kind during the last couple of years.

In August, the continuing month-long devastating floods have washed away over 200 link-bridges in the rugged northwest province, trapping hundreds of thousand people and disrupting land communication in the region.
