LUSAKA, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Egyptian airline says it will commence direct flights to Zambia next year as part of efforts to boost cooperation between the two countries, the Post of Zambia reported on Thursday.

Egyptair says it will from Jan. 17, 2011 commence direct flights between Cairo and Lusaka via Tanzania's capital Dar es Salaam, according to the Post.

The airline will be flying four times in a week.

Egyptair Manager for Tanzania Wael Eldmerdash said Africa had become a pioneer developing market because of the current investments, economic development and commercial uprising, adding that the airline aspires to cover 46 African destinations through its code share agreements and its mutual cooperation with Ethiopian airlines and South African airline.

With the new service to Lusaka, Egyptair African network would reach 18 destinations with a total of 102 weekly flights, according to the Post. "Our ambitious plan focuses on network development and expansion and we will add new routes in Africa and increase daily service especially operating from terminal three at Cairo Airport, which is the main hub of North Africa," the official was quoted as saying by the paper.

According to him, having a direct flight to Egypt from Zambia will have significant impact on travelers although they will be a stop-over in Tanzania.
