Kim Jong Il inspects factories

PYONGYANG, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), recently inspected factories in South Hamgyong district and the Hamhung University of Hydraulic Engineering, the official news agency KCNA reported Wednesday.

Kim, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and chairman of the National Defense Commission of the DPRK, inspected the Paekunsan Combined Foodstuff Factory, Hamhung Disabled Soldiers' Essential Plastic Goods Factory and Hungnam Pharmaceutical Factory, all located in Hamhung city in east central DPRK northeast of Pyongyang.

Kim was very pleased and satisfied with the feats performed by the workers and hoped they would boost production and make a positive contribution to improving the people's living standards.

Kim also inspected the Hamhung University of Hydraulic Engineering and noted that the party and people of the DPRK would always remember the feats performed by the teachers and students of the university for the party and the revolution, the country and the people.

The DPRK leader was accompanied by Kim Ki Nam and Hong Sok Hyong, members of the Political Bureau and secretaries of the Central Committee of the WPK, as well as other senior officials.
