PHNOM PENH, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- China will continue to share the opportunities of development and handle the challenges side by side with other Asian countries in order to gain lasting peace and common prosperity in Asia, said a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Thursday.

Li Yuanchao, member of the political bureau and the secretariat, minister of the Organization Department of the CPC central committee, made the remarks at the opening of the 6th General Assembly of International Conference of Asian Political Parties ( ICAPP) at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh.

"Being an Asian country, the development of China is unattainable without Asia, while the development of China also provides opportunities for Asia," Li stressed in his keynote speech titled "Deepen Dialogues and Cooperation between Asian Political Parties for a Better Future in Asia".

"China unswervingly follows the path of peaceful development, and has always actively participated in various regional cooperation mechanisms in Asia and promoted the regional economic integration," Li said.

With the coming of the second decade in the 21st century, Li pointed out that new opportunities and challenges are presented to Asian countries. "Against this background, to deepen the cooperation in Asia conforms to the fundamental interests and common aspirations of all the countries and constitutes the shared responsibilities and important mission of Asian political parties. "

Li highly valued the role and contribution made by the ICAPP, saying that in the past decade, "ICAPP has played an important role in developing relations among Asian countries and safeguarding the regional peace and stability."

"The gathering has now been developed into an important multilateral forum for equal-footed exchanges, frank dialogues, building consensus and strengthening cooperation between Asian political parties," Li said. "We are delighted and encouraged by the growth and strengthening of the ICAPP."
