Xavi: Barca can play even better

12-15-2010 11:09 BJT

MADRID, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez this Tuesday sounded a warning to his club's rivals that his team can play even better than it has been doing over the past weeks.

Barcelona's 5-0 win over Real Sociedad on Sunday is the latest in an incredible run of form from the current BBVA Primera Liga leaders. Barcelona's recent games have seen then win 3-0 away to Osasuna, defeat title rivals 5-0 and win 8-0 away to Almeria.

The Catalans have scored 21 league goals without reply in their past four matches as they look to defend their league title. Against Real Sociedad they had possession of the ball for 83 percent of the game, but Xavi believes that have still not reached their full potential.

"I have been here for a long time and we have never played as well as this," he said as he received a Catalan sports award.

"It is a luxury and a privilege and we all have the feeling that we all enjoy every game, but we can still play better," he assured in declarations published in Diario AS.

"We can improve the way we pressure our rivals in defense, we can run more throughout the 90 minutes of our games and we can improve from set pieces. There are always things that you can work on," he said.

Although Barcelona won everything it is possible to win in 2009 and this season has seen them win the Primera Liga and the Spanish Supercup, Xavi said that the squad is in no danger of losing its hunger.

"This group of players wants more every day and we never get tired of competing," he said, admitting that his club has to take things one game at a time.

"You can't look too far into the future," he said.
