Tongzhou district is slating more than 21.6 billion yuan ($3.24 billion) to build a "music industry zone," in the hopes of providing the region with venues for live shows while creating a music production center, authorities announced at a contract signing ceremony Saturday.

The Tongzhou New Music City will cover 3.3 square kilometers located south of the Beijing-Harbin Expressway within the Sixth Ring Road and include five themed "zones." The entertainment zone will include different music venues looking to attract big name acts, according to a release by multimedia company Long Legacy, main investor to sign with Tongzhou district on the project.

"The New Music City will greatly promote Tongzhou's cultural, creative and tourism industries in the future," qianlong.com quoted Wang Yunfeng, the secretary of Tongzhou district committee of the CPC at the contract signing ceremony.
