Celebrating ice and snow in Harbin

The 27th Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival will kick off on January 5 in the capital of Heilongjiang Province, according to Harbin Tourism Administration.

The festival scheduled hundreds of activities related to snow and ice in the field of tourism, art, sports, trade and cultural events for three months. Apart from the regular annual events like skiing, snow sculpture competition, there will be an international snow marriage ceremony, snow film festival, winter swimming competition and Asian League Ice Hockey.

Harbin organizes ice art every winter which attracts visitors from all over the world. The best collections of ice artworks can be seen in Harbin Ice and Snow World, Ice Lantern Garden Party, Sun Island Scenic Area, Yabuli International Ski Resort and Zhaolin Park.

As a prelude to the festival, the 37th Harbin Ice Lantern Festival has already opened in Zhaolin Park along with daily snow and ice activities and programs of folk culture from northern China. The ice lantern exhibition showcases the half-century history of the art of ice lanterns in Harbin. Visitors can also enjoy, for free, the 13 entertainment facilities, including 4D films, during the festival.

The 23rd Snow Sculpture Expo of Sun Island Scenic Area has also started, with focus on Italian architecture, culture and art. The expo offers tours of exploration, adventure and culture as three main themes, inspired by the three renowned Italian historical figures.
