WASHINGTON, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama spoke with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak over phone on Tuesday morning on a range of issues, including the situation in Tunisia and Lebanon, said the White House in a statement.

Obama extended his personal condolences to Mubarak and the Egyptian people for the "heinous bombing" targeting Christians that occurred on New Year's Day, and urged all sides to ease tensions and work toward improved relations among all religions, said the White House.

He raised the latest developments in Tunisia, and shared with Mubarak that the United States is calling for "calm and an end to violence", said the White House.

Obama thanked Mubarak for Egypt's support for Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri and the special tribunal for Lebanon, according to the statement.

The two leaders also discussed efforts to achieve Middle East peace between the Israelis and Palestinians, said the White House.
