Tsinghua aiming for world-class status in 2011

In 2011, Tsinghua University has the ambition and is taking the actions to ascend to the world-class level on its 100th anniversary, according to the annual Tisinghua media seminar recently-held.

Five actions supportive of the current goal for 2011 include reorganizing its disciplinary distribution, spurring technological innovation, tightening up the domestic-overseas communication, reforming the personnel system into to create faculty of higher quality and comprehensively developing the infrastructures.

The general goal was initially set as early as 1985.

In 1993, the school advanced the "Three Nine-Year Phase" general development plan and drew out the corresponding Blueprint Phase Implementation Directory. The first nine-year period, from 1994 to 2002, was Tsinghua's transition to a comprehensive research university, which has been achieved. From 2003 to 2011, the second period, Tsinghua has sought to achieve a world-class rank. Afterward, the university will concentrate on making profound improvements for the third nine-year period from 2012-2020.
