Austrian magazine "Society" launches special issue on China

VIENNA, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Austria's diplomatic magazine " Society" on Friday launched a special issue devoted to China- related topics, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Austria.

Austrian President Heinz Fischer wrote a congratulatory article for the new issue.

The launch ceremony, held in the Chinese Embassy in Vienna, was attended by some 80 guests from Austria's political, economic, cultural and military circles.

Chinese Ambassador to Austria Shi Mingde said 40 years since the two countries formally established diplomatic ties, Austria has become one of the richest country in the European Union while China has grown into the world's second largest economy.

Meanwhile, the two countries have improved bilateral relations and exchanged more high-level official visits,Shi said.

In her speech, Gerti Tauchhamme, owner of "Society", expressed gratitude to those who have made contribution to the successful launch of the special issue, including the Chinese Embassy and Chinese artists living in Austria, as well as others from the Austrian side.

The current special issue on China contains multiple articles related to China's history and culture, economic achievements and fruitful results achieved in political, economic, cultural cooperation between the two countries.

During the ceremony, Chinese artists and students performed traditional Chinese music and dances to add a festive atmosphere to the event.

China and Austria established diplomatic relations on May 28, 1971.
