Earthquake felt in northern Chile

SANTIAGO, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 5 degrees at the Richter scale shock on Sunday Coquimbo region in the north of Chile, without reports of victims and material damages.

According to a report from the Seismology Institute of the University of Chile, the earthquake occurred at 6:48 p.m. local time (2148 GMT). Its

epicenter was 51 kilometers deep, 21 km west to La Serena city, some 400 km north to Santiago.

According to Chile's National Office of Emergencies (Onemi), to the moment there is not any reports of victims, halts in the basic services or damages in infrastructure.

The Onemi said that the earthquake was felt by the citizens in Coquimbo, La Serena, Ovalle and the south of Peru.
