Chinese planes carry 32.6 million passengers over Spring Festival travel season

BEIJING, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- About 32.6 million passengers took flights during the 40-day Spring Festival migration season that ended on Sunday, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) reported on Monday.

The figure was 12.3 percent higher than the same period last year, the CAAC said on its website.

Flight passengers averaged 680,000 per day during the busiest travel season this year, about 50,000 more than last year, the statement said.

Also, the number of tourists who took flights hit its peak of 780,000 on Feb. 8, about 50,000 more than one year earlier.

The Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, fell on Feb. 3 this year. The busy Spring Festival transportation season runs for 40 days and is calculated in two phases: 15 days before and 25 days after the Spring Festival.
