PANAMA CITY, March 3 (Xinhua) -- The Aero Naval National Service Units of Panama (Senam) on Thursday seized 500 kg of cocaine in a Colombian-flagged ship in the Atlantic.

Senam naval operations director Ramon Lopez said the ship Cristo Rey was intercepted off an indigenous town of Ustupo, Kuna Yala County.

According to Lopez, the drugs were found in 18 sacks, and four Colombians and four Panamanians were arrested during the "El Nazareno" operation.

The seizure is part of a war launched by the Panamanian government since last year against drug trafficking.

In 2010, Panama seized more than 80 tons of drugs.
