China achieves rapid development with social balance: Mexican senator

03-04-2011 14:36 BJT Special Report:2011 NPC & CPPCC Sessions |

MEXICO CITY, March 3 (Xinhua) -- China has developed rapidly while still maintaining its social balance, and millions of Chinese have left poverty behind, Mexican Senator Carlos Jimenez said Thursday.

Economists must recognize that only relying on the market cannot solve social differences, it has to change, and China is a great example, Jimenez said, who is also president of the Asia-Pacific Foreign Relations Committee of the Mexican Senate.

Jimenez said China has invented a successful economic model, which takes advantage of the market without excesses.

Despite China's successful economy, the Asian country still faces big challenges, such as increasing low incomes, reducing the gap between rich and poor, as well as balancing urban and rural development, he said.

China is currently holding its annual meetings of the National People's Congress (NPC) and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), during which great challenges such as health, increasing incomes, housing and balanced development will be addressed, the senator said.

"Now the challenges are to let more Chinese people reach a middle level of living standard, to shake off poverty as well as to make the country be industrialized and modern in all aspects," Jimenez said.

"I think those are the great challenges that China has to face, and there are conditions for China to solve them well," he said.

Among these challenges are those concerning social development. "The NPC has the commitment of promoting prosperity not only on the macro level, but also relating to ordinary Chinese families," he said.
