Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, expressed appreciation for Mr. Tillich's active role in promoting Sino-German relations and regional cooperation.

"China has always regarded Germany as an important partner and attaches great importance to developing Sino-German strategic partnership," said Li.

"As the international situation becomes complicated and are ever changing, plenty of the opportunities and challenges China and Germany have been facing are the same," said Li.

Hailing the forward movement of bilateral cooperation in areas such as new energy and "green" low carbon economy, Li hoped both sides would continue to advance a long-term, healthy and stable growth of the Sino-German relations, under the principles of mutual respect and equality.

Tillich, who was in Beijing to attend an opening ceremony for a large Sino-German art exhibition, said he was glad to see the remarkable achievements made through cooperation between Germany and China in different fields.

The state of Saxony is willing to further cement cooperation with China in economic, trade and cultural fields, said Tillich.
