Eurozone jobless rate drops slightly in February

BRUSSELS, April 1 (Xinhua) -- The eurozone jobless rate dropped slightly to 9.9 percent in February from 10 percent the previous month, European Union statistical office Eurostat reported Friday.

For the 27-member EU, the figure also decreased slightly from 9.6 percent to 9.5 percent.

Eurostat estimated that 23.051 million men and women in the EU, of whom 15.747 million were in the eurozone, were unemployed in February.

Among the member states, the lowest jobless rate was in the Netherlands, at 4.3 percent. The highest rate was in Spain, at 20.5 percent. The jobless rate in Germany dropped to 6.3 percent from 6.5 percent in January.

Compared with a year ago, the jobless rate dropped in 13 member states, increased in 12 and remained stable in two.
