Prince William will wed in Irish Guards red

04-29-2011 16:43 BJT Special Report:UK Royal Wedding - Prince William and Kate Middleton |

Prince William will stick with tradition and wear a military uniform as he waits for his bride-to-be at the altar of Westminster Abbey.

The 28-year-old’s decision has surprised some as it was previously predicted that he would wear an RAF uniform as he is currently serving as a flight lieutenant but the choice has been welcomed as a tribute to a battalion that has recently returned from an arduous tour in Afghanistan.

St James’s Palace revealed that the Prince chose the uniform of the Irish Guards because it was his “highest rank”.

A palace spokesman said: “If he had not gone for that he would have had to have chosen between his RAF and Household Cavalry uniforms and because he is a similar rank in both of those, it would have been quite a difficult decision.”

The uniform was fitted by military and civilian tailors Kashket and Partners. The prince will wear a simple forage cap that will feature the motto ‘Quis Separabit’ which means ‘who will separate us’ as well as gold sword slings, the Garter Sash with the Wings of the Royal Air Force, the Garter Star and the Golden Jubilee Medal.

We may know Prince Williams outfit but Kate Middleton’s dress is still being kept under wrap although it looks possible that the designer may be McQueen’s Sarah Burton as someone looking like her was spotted going into The Goring Hotel where the Middleton’s are staying.
