LONDON, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Prince William had been bestowed the title of Duke of Cambridge by Queen Elizabeth II, and Kate Middleton would become the Duchess of Cambridge after they were married, Buckingham Palace said Friday.

It is traditional for royal grooms to receive at least one title on their wedding day. William was conferred with three titles Friday.

"His (Prince William) titles will be Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus," the palace said in a statement.

Despite being a Duchess, Kate will also become Princess William of Wales, adopting her husband's first name.

The royal wedding will take place at Westminster Abbey in London and the service is due to start at 11 a.m. local time (1000 GMT).

Some 1,900 people were invited to the service and another 2 billion worldwide are expected to watch it on television.

Tens of thousands of royal fans have lined the processional route hours before the wedding, while thousands camped out overnight in front of Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace.

About 5,000 police officers were on the streets of London Friday to deal with potential threats.
