RIO DE JANEIRO, May 5 (Xinhua) -- At home against Ceara in the first leg of the quarterfinals in the 2011 Brazilian Cup, Flamengo lost 2-1 on Thursday.

The loss marked Flamengo's first loss of the year, terminating a 26-game undefeated streak that culminated in the 2011 Rio de Janeiro state championship title last weekend.

Ceara scored the game's first goal in the 43rd minute. Off a free kick from 23 meters out, Marcelo Nicacio fired the ball around the defensive wall of Flamengo players and into the far left side of the goal, out of reach of a diving keeper Felipe.

Ceara returned to the second half to increase its lead. In the 65th minute, Geraldo received a great ball from Thiago Humberto and proceeded to dribble past two Flamengo defenders and blast it past Felipe and into the goal.

Flamengo's only goal came in the 76th minute when Fierro's crossed ball was met by a lunging Vanderley, knocking the ball past keeper Fernando Henrique.

Flamengo will travel to face Ceara in the second and defining leg of the quarterfinals series on May 11. The team from Rio de Janeiro will need to win by a two-goal margin in order to guarantee its passage into the tournament semifinals.

The series winner will face the winner between Coritiba and Palmeiras. Coritiba all but guaranteed its passage into the next round with a 6-0 win at home against Palmeiras on Thursday.

The winner of the 2011 Brazilian Cup earns its automatic spot in the 2012 Libertadores Cup.
