Li Xiaoxia and Guo Yan comfortably to fourth round

ROTTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS, May 11(Xinhua)-- Li Xiaoxia qualified for the women's singles third round at the World Table Tennis Championships in Rotterdam on Wednesday.

The top seed from China beat Petra Lovas from Hungary 11-8, 11-5, 11-6, 11-7. Later on Wednesday she will play her third-round-match against Kim Jong of DPR Korea.

Number two seed Guo Yan also went through by beating Elizabeta Samara from Romania 11-2, 11-7, 11-7, 11-9. Guo Yue (3/4) beat Ri Mi Gyong of DPR Korea 11-8, 11-3, 11-3, 11-2, while Ding Ning (3/4) was too strong for Spain' s Zhu Fang (11-4, 11-6, 11-7, 11-7).

Wu Yang was playing her second round tie in the main stadium and knocked out Germany's Zhenqi Barthel after a scary start 14-12, 3-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-6.

"I didn't feel comfortable at the start as it's the first time that I played in the main stadium" , Wu Yang said.

"My defense was not good enough, especially in the first two games."

Liu Shiwen beat Ukrainian Margaryta Pesotska 11-4, 11-4, 11-4, 11-8, while Ai Fukuhara from Japan had a tough match against Kim Hye Song of DPR Korea, 11-4, 11-8, 7-11, 12-10, 10-12, 11-7. Fukuhara will meet China's Fan Ying, who beat Ruta Paskauskiene of Lithuania 11-7, 11-3, 13-11, 11-9, in the third round.

Australian Lay Jian Fang was close to a shock win over local favorite Li Jiao, but the Dutch women managed to come back 12-14, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-9, 11-8.

"I had problems with the effect she gave" , Li Jiao commented. "In the beginning I wanted to hurry to get used to 0-2. When I came back I thought if you keep playing like this, you will go home. Then I became calm."
