OTTAWA, May 11 (Xinhua) -- A Canadian forces detachment of five CF-18 Hornet jet fighters has completed its deployment to Keflavik, Iceland, in support of the NATO-Iceland Air Policing Program.

The deployment last week, the first under a new Canadian forces initiative dubbed Operation IGNITION, was part of Canada's ongoing contribution to NATO's regional security efforts, sources from the Department of National Defense said on Wednesday.

The NATO-Iceland Air Policing Program is a NATO operation conducted to patrol Iceland's airspace. The first deployment of NATO aircraft took place in May 2008.
