YAMOUSSOUKRO, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Augustine Abdoulaye Thiam Houphouet, the young brother of Cote d'Ivoire's first president Felix Houphouet-Boigny, was on Wednesday installed as the new governor of Yamoussoukro district, the country's political and administrative capital, 230 km from the West African country's economic capital Abidjan.

The hand-over ceremony between the outgoing governor, Apollinaire N'dri, who was appointed to the post in 2002 by Cote d'Ivoire's deposed leader Laurent Gbagbo, and his successor took place in the presence of Interior Minister Ahmed Bakayoko.

Thiam, Yamoussoukro's traditional chief, was appointed to the position on April 27 by Cote d'Ivoire President Alassane Ouattara.

The outgoing governor asked his former colleagues "to work closely with the incoming governor Thiam Houphouet."

Houphouet on his part thanked the outgoing governor for his work and promised to seek advise from him.
