RIO DE JANEIRO, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Corinthians won 2-1 at home against Coritiba in the second round of the 2011 Brazilian Championship on Sunday.

Coritiba entered the match with a reserve team due to its upcoming match against Vasco da Gama in the finals of the Brazilian Cup.

Using a new uniform, Corinthians scored the game's opening goal in the fourth minute. On the receiving end of a give-and-go with Willian, Paulinho dominated the ball off his chest and blasted a shot past keeper Vanderlei. Coritiba complained that Paulinho used his arm to control the ball, but the referee did not agree.

Coritiba tied the match in the 73rd minute. Off a crossed ball, Jeci redirected the ball towards the center of the field where Leonardo appeared to knock the ball into the open net.

Corinthians reclaimed the lead in the 80th minute when Jorge Henrique lofted the ball towards the Coritiba goal, finding a cutting Danilo who redirected the ball between two defenders into the back of the net. After taking the lead, Corinthians fell back on the defensive side of the ball and prevented any possibility of a draw.

With a perfect record, Corinthians will travel to face Flamengo on June 5 in the third round of the tournament. On the same day, Coritiba will host Vasco da Gama. Both teams are finalists in the 2011 Brazilian Cup.
