Cruzeiro draws with Palmeiras 1-1

RIO DE JANEIRO, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Playing at home against Palmeiras, Cruzeiro battled to a 1-1 draw on Sunday in the third round of the 2011 Brazilian Championship.

Palmeiras scored the game's first goal in the 14th minute of the second half. Marcos Assuncao rolled the ball off to Luan who wound up and slammed a one-timer into the upper left side of the goal, blowing past keeper Fabio.

Cruzeiro was able to score the equalizer in the 28th minute of the second half. Off a Montillo corner kick, Gil redirected the ball to Anselmo Ramon who easily pushed the ball into the open net. The goal was Cruzeiro's first of the tournament.

The result earned Cruzeiro its first point of the competition. In the first round Cruzeiro lost to Figueirense 1-0. Palmeiras improved to four points. In the opening round, Palmerias beat Botafogo 1-0.

In the next round of play, Cruzeiro will travel to face Fluminense on June 4. On the same day, Palmeiras will receive Atletico-PR.
