Russia, Japan split 2011 Weihai long distance triathlon titles

WEIHAI, China, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Russia and Japan took the men's and women's crowns respectively in long distance triathlon event, sanctioned by the International Triathlon Union (ITU), in Weihai, east China's Shandong province on Sunday.

In the men's Elite, Rostyagaev Dmitry from Russia clocked in the winning time of 4:16:48.38, Kieran Doe of New Zealand finished second in 4:17:38.44, Australia's Farlow Aaron placed third in 4:17:54.06.

In the women's Elite, Japanese Kiyomi Niwata won the title by 4:59:42.74, Norway's Lie Kristin got the silver medal with 5:19:11.23, Koll Caroline from South Africa was third in 5:26:05.65.

The long distance triathlon, twice of the Olympic distance, has a total race distance of 103 km. The triathletes have to finish continuously 3 km of swimming, 80 km of cycling, and 20 km of running.
