BEIJING, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Monday pledged to bolster economic cooperation with Barbados and promote the friendly relations between China and the Caribbean region.

During a half-hour talk with his Barbados counterpart Freundel Stuart, Wen called the Caribbean state a "good friend" and "important trade partner" of China in the region.

China appreciates Barbados' adherence to the one-China policy and will strengthen mutual understanding and trust by increasing high-level exchanges, Wen said at the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing.

"China will enhance coordination with Barbados on major issues such as climate change to safeguard common interests," he said.

China will also expand cooperation in such sectors as the economy, trade, infrastructure construction, agriculture, tourism, culture and education, Wen said.
