ISLAMABAD, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistani football team's campaign for the 2014 World Cup ended on Sunday night in its eastern border city of Lahore when the team played a qualifying round match tied against the Bangladeshi team.

To reach the next qualifying round, it was necessary for Pakistani team to get victory by a four-goal margin against the Bangladeshi team which had already beat Pakistan 3-0 in Dhaka last month.

On June 29, Pakistan was desperately looking to play a draw match against Bangladesh in their first leg of the opening round of FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Bangladesh.

But the heavy rain a day before the match did not allow the Pakistani team to have any pre-match practice in the pitch of the venue and finally Pakistan lost by three goals.

On Sunday night match the Pakistani team desperately tried to win the match but the well-prepared Bangladeshi team's defense did not give Pakistani attackers any chance to kick the ball into the net.

After this match, the Bangladeshi team qualified for the next round where it will encounter Lebanon.

Pakistani team's Tariq Lutfi, who was confident before the match, said that the team players tried their best to win but the opponent team played well.

At the end of the match Bangladeshi team members and management showed their satisfaction over the event arrangements and security situation.

But the officials of the Bangladesh board expressed reluctance to tour Pakistan but FIFA rejected their proposal to relocate their World Cup's qualifier from Pakistan to Bangladesh due to security reasons.
