German writer: Tibetan people satisfied with today's life

07-18-2011 15:08 BJT Special Report:This is Tibet |

China's Tibet has gradually come into focus by western people in recent years with its rapid progress in economy, culture, society and politics, according to the China Tibet Online.

German writer Tom Cann, who shows a profound interest in Tibetan culture and history, was impressed by the tremendous changes taken place in the region in his April visit invited by the Chinese government.

He said:"A modern Tibet came into my eyes as the region has undergone a thorough development in all fields. I'm glad to see the wine making techniques in my country had been introduced into Tibet."

"Moreover, I saw people using mobile phones, Word and Windows in Tibetan language. I know the region is going to open more airlines in the future," said Tom Cann, adding that it shows the fast development in Tibet.

Cann pointed out that traditional culture has been well preserved in Tibet. "The traditional culture and custom have been given good protection and undergone development in Lhasa. For example, training courses such as the Thangka painting and Tibetan dancing are available to both ordinary citizens and university students."

"Through my dialogues with the local Tibetans, I could feel their satisfaction with their current life," Cann added.

In 2009, Cann published a book titled "Tibet Plan", offering the western people a real picture of the world's highest plateau. He wished to make it into a film to help more people to get acquainted with Tibet as well as the whole China.
