UNITED NATIONS, July 23 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council condemned "in the strongest terms" the terrorist attacks that occurred in Norway Friday and caused at least 92 deaths and numerous injuries, said a press statement issued by the Council president here Saturday.

The members of the Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed, said the statement.

The members of the Security Council expressed their deep sympathy and sincere condolences to the victims of "these heinous acts" and to their families, and to the people and government of Norway.

The Council also reiterated their determination to combat all forms of terrorism, in accordance with its responsibilities under the Charter of the United Nations, it said.

Police confirmed Saturday the death toll rose to 85 in the shooting spree Friday at a youth camp on the island of Utoeya, some 40 km west of the capital of Oslo. The shootings on the island followed a bombing in Oslo that killed seven.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg said Saturday the twin attacks in the Nordic country that killed at least 92 people were "a national tragedy."
