S. Korean diver reported missing in N. Philippines

MANILA, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- A South Korean was declared missing after a diving session in Puerto Galera town in Oriental Mindoro on Sunday, the Philippine National Police reported Monday.

Rescue operations are underway to account for the victim, identified as Kim Eui Soo, according to police reports.

Soo and two fellow Koreans, Koyoung Jin, 40 and Ohyang Roak, 35, went diving at Escarceo bay in Puerto Galera on Sunday. However, strong current drifted the three to the waters of Batangas province where Jin and Roak were rescued by a passing tugboat at around 6 a.m Sunday, at Malabrigo Point, east of Lobo town. The two were transported back to Puerto Galera, police said.

"Continuous operation is being conducted by Philippine Coast Guard for possible recovery of the latter," referring to the still missing diver, police said.
