GUANGZHOU, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Spanish giants Real Madrid have signed an agreement with Chinese soccer club Guangzhou Evergrande on player exchanges, brand promotion and the opening of a training academy in China.

The two inked a letter of intent on cooperation Tuesday in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou after the Spanish team arrived in China on an exhibition tour.

"We are building a close relationship with Guangzhou Evergrande," said Florentino Perez, president of Real Madrid.

"We are working together to establish a football academy in China, which I think is the first step of our cooperation."

Real Madrid are scheduled to play two friendlies during their week-long China visit, including one against Evergrande Wednesday night.

Evergrande has been the focus of media in the Chinese Super League this season. It recently signed star Argentinian midfielder Dario Conca from Brazilian club Fluminense with a record transfer fee of 10 million U.S. dollars.
