LOS ANGELES, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Six Southern California men were among the 72 people who were charged for their roles in an international exclusive cyber bulletin board, allegedly involving in sexual abuse of children 12 and under, the U.S. federal officials announced on Wednesday.

Kevin R. Casey, 38, of Palos Verdes, and five other defendants from the southern part of California, ranging from 23 to 55 in age, were charged for their links to the members-only website, known as Dreamboard. The bulletin board, which was designed to promote pedophilia, encouraged its members to create new images and videos of child sexual abuse, the authorities said in a press release.

The defendants were charged in three indictments and one complaint unsealed in Louisiana and elsewhere, which is brought about by an extensive investigation which is code-named Operation Delego and spearheaded by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

All but 20 have been arrested in the U.S. and abroad. Nineteen defendants who were arrested came from 13 countries.

More than 500 other members of the group from around the world have been under investigation, according to officials.

"The members of this criminal network shared a demented dream to create the preeminent online community for the promotion of child sexual exploitation but for the children they victimized, this was nothing short of a nightmare," said Attorney General Holder. "This operation marks another important step forward in our work to protect children across -- and beyond -- this country."

The drive is an ongoing investigation which was launched in late 2009, was part of a nationwide ICE initiative which aims to identify and arrest those who prey on children, including human traffickers, international sex tourists, Internet pornographers and foreign predators.
