Rwanda national carrier acquires new aircraft

KIGALI, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Rwandese national carrier, Rwandair Express, has purchased its fifth aircraft, a Boeing 707- 800 to spread its services to the Great Lakes region and in East Africa, the company's CEO John Mirenge announced on Sunday.

"We intend to open new routes in a number of African countries, " Mirenge said.

Speaking of the acquisition of a new plane by Rwandair Express, the country's Infrastructure Minister Albert Nsenghiymva said the national carrier's expansion and modernization plan is aimed at spreading its market within the region.

The long term objective of Rwandair Express is to rival with other African airlines, among them Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airline which fly to a number of European, American and Asian countries via Rwanda.

Brussels Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and a Dutch airline, KLM, fly to the Kigali route.
