New Thai cabinet endorsed, no "red-shirt" leaders in it

08-10-2011 08:24 BJT Special Report:Yingluck becomes Thailand’s 1st female PM |

BANGKOK, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- The new Yingluck Shinawatra-led cabinet on Tuesday night was royally appointed after Yingluck herself was appointed on Monday.

The list of cabinet members had been forwarded to the Office of His Majesty's Principal Private Secretary for royal endorsement earlier on Tuesday.

Some of the cabinet members are Pheu Thai Chairman Yongyuth Wichaidit, who was appointed as deputy prime minister and also interior minister, Chalerm Yubamrung, a vocal veteran politician, appointed as deputy prime minister, Gen Yuthasak Sasiprapha, appointed as defense minister and Surapong Tovichakchaikul, appointed as foreign minister.

There are no leaders of the anti-establishment "red-shirt" camp, who held major rally in Bangkok last year to oust former pro- establishment Democrat-led government, in cabinet members list.

Earlier Tuesday, Yingluck, the youngest sister of the party founder Thaksin Shinawatra, said her brother did not get involved in selecting the cabinet members.

Thaksin, now living in self-exile in Dubai, was ousted by elite- back military coup in 2006. Although he is outside Thailand, Thaksin is still active and is believed to be the de facto leader of the party.

"I'm confident and satisfied with the cabinet lineup after putting my best efforts on it. We should give them a chance to work before judging their performance," MCOT online quoted Yingluck as saying on Tuesday after she submitted the cabinet list.

The new cabinet ministers led by Yingluck, the first woman prime minister of the country, will take the oath of allegiance before the King at Siriraj Hospital on Wednesday.
