08-16-2011 16:56 BJT

JOHANNESBURG, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- The wreckage of the two missing planes has been found on Tuesday, Search and Rescue South Africa said.

South African Press Association reported that it was not yet established if any of the people on board survived the crash.

The Albatross planes, with at least 12 people on board, were presumed to have crashed in the George's Valley area, between Polokwane and Tzaneen, on Sunday.

Both planes were discovered by a police helicopter, after weather allowed for search and rescue efforts to continue on Tuesday.

Aviation support spokesman Ray de Vries told Business Day that rescuers were being lowered from a helicopter to the ground to take a closer look. There is no sign of a fire.

Most of the family of those on board had also gathered in Tzaneen for further information.

The planes took off from a landing strip in Tzaneen after an air show and were headed to the Rand Airport in Germiston.
