BOGOTA, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Ilva Miriam Hoyos, a delegate from the Colombian disciplinary office, asked the Prosecutor on Tuesday to initiate a criminal investigation against national soccer team coach, Hernan Dario Gomez, for assaulting a woman.

"We also ask the Attorney to begin the investigations when it's considered appropriate," the official said.

On August 13, Gomez assaulted a woman at a time when he was leaving a bar in Bogota, the Colombian capital.

Local media said she was "under the influence of alcohol and repeatedly insulted" the Colombian coach, who assaulted her on two occasions.

Attorney Carlos Gomez Castro denounced Gomez, who apologized for having physically assaulted a woman.

"About the incident occurred ... and which had me mortified since that moment, I want to say publicly that I deeply regret for this fact and the way I lost control," wrote Gomez in a statement.

Once that fact became public, Gomez resigned as coach. The Colombian Football Federation is still studying the case of the helmsman, while the players demanded the return of the strategist.
