Former Spanish stiker Raul to stay with Schalke

BERLIN, Aug 16 (Xinhua) -- Former Spanish striker Raul will stay with German Bundesliga side Schalke 04 after the 34-year-old refused an offer from Blackburn Rovers, Schalke manager Horst Heldt confirmed Tuesday.

"We had a conference call with Raul's agent and an interpreter," Heldt told Bild on Tuesday. "Raul wants to stay with us, there will be no transfer to Blackburn."

English Premier League side Blackburn sent a written bid to Schalke on Monday for Raul, who joined Schalke in July 2010 and has a contract until June 2012.

Last season, Raul helped Schalke reach the semifinals of the Champions League, and scored 19 goals in all competitions, including 13 in the German league.

The Spanish star won the last of his 102 caps for Spain in 2006.
