Iran faces S Korea in William Jones basketball final

TEHRAN, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Iran defeated the Philippines in the semifinal and will play South Korea in the final of the 2011 William Jones International Basketball Tournament, local satellite Press TV reported on Sunday.

The 78-59 semifinal victory in Chinese Taipei on Saturday came after the title-holder Iran lost to the Asian squad 73-59 in the first round, said the report.

In the other semifinal on the same day, South Korea beat Chinese Taipei 90-85.

Iran who lost to the Philippines and South Korea, but defeated Japan, the UAE and Malaysia, is gearing up for the FIBA Asian Championship scheduled to be held in Wuhan, China from September 15 to 25 where the champion goes to the Olympics next year.
