WASHINGTON, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- A plot to attack a school with explosives by a former student has been foiled in Tampa, Florida, and writings of the alleged plot and dangerous materials have been seized, said Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor in a televised news briefing on Wednesday.

Police arrested 17-year-old Jared Michael Cano after receiving tips from an anonymous tipster. The former student's plan targeted Freedom High School, with intent to murder dozens on the first day of classes. Reports said the student planned to kill 32 people, including two principals.

At a press conference Wednesday, the police department said that they were alerted of the student's plans after an anonymous tipster came forward Tuesday morning.

Castor says authorities found a manifesto with Cano's minute-to- minute plan for the massacre, detailing each murder he intended to commit.

Cano has been charged with threatening to throw, project, place or discharge a destructive device. He also faces charges for possession of bomb-making materials, cultivation of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana, police say.
