Swimming say good bye to ShenZhen 2011

The swimming competitions of the 26th Universiade in Shenzhen in 2011 ended last night. Athletes from many countries, chinese and tourists filled the Natatorium Universiade Center to see the last day swimming finals.

Athletes, volunteers and spectators were exchanging hats, shirts, towels, swim caps, swimsuits, brooches, bags and everything else you could change.

Two events that marked the night were men’s 1500m freestyle final with the victory of Rocco Potenza(ITA), swimming with a very high frequency on the rotation of his arms, won the race with 15:00: 57, after came Yohsuke Miyamoto (JPN) in 15:04 : 06 and Sergil Frolov (UKR) in 3rd with 6.15.17. The other race was the Women’s 100m breaststroke final, before start, the Chinese Ye Sun was so quiet that looked like she wasn’t going to compete. At the beginning she was behind turning in 5th the first 50m, but in the second s 50m, put her shyness away and smashed everyone in front of her, makiing the crowd go out of mind. She put more than one body away from the others swimmers and won the race with a time of 1:07:53.

With an Olympic-level structure in the complex, it was difficult to find problems for most of the athletes may have been the higher temperature.

The Americans won the most of the medals , 12 gold, 10 silver and 5 bronze , total 25. Japan came in second with 6 gold, 5 silver and 15 bronze, total 26 in the third came New Zealand with 4 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze. China managed got 6 gold and three bronze.

Highlights of the competition in the male was Timothy Phillips of the United States with three gold medals and a silver. In the female was the Chinese swimmer Yi Lung with three gold medals, one bronze and two game records.

An interesting fact about this competition was the games record breaking of th, held only by girls. China and the U.S. both had 3 breaks and Australia a record breaker.

In the women’s 50m backstroke Jennifer Connolly broke the record twice, 28.13 in the preliminary and then in the final 27.92.
