Nikkei gains on firm Asian bourses

09-21-2011 15:40 BJT

TOKYO, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks rose Wednesday on firm Asian bourses but investors generally took a wait-and-see attitude before the outcome of the U.S. Federal Reserve's policy-making meeting.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 19.92 points, or 0.23 percent, from Tuesday to 8,741.16. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 2.09 points, or 0.28 percent higher to 757.13.

The precision machinery sector led the gainers, and was followed by the mining and the glass and ceramics sectors. Decliners included the rubber products, the textiles and the sea transport sectors.

The turnover was about 955.8 billion yen (about 12.53 billion U. S. dollars).
