African oil producers meet in Brazzaville on sustainable development

BRAZZAVILLE, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- The 16-member Association of Petroleum Producers in Africa (APPA) opened its 42nd expert meeting on Monday in Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo, to discuss technical, finance and administration issues.

According to a news release, the three-day event is focused on various topics which include the study of nomenclature of sedimentary basins, the evolution of the APPA Data Bank, the APPA 8th Action Program and its draft budget for 2012 to 2013.

The 16 member states of APPA include Algeria, Angola, Benin, Cameroon, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cote d'Ivoire, Egypt, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Mauritania, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan and Chad.

The APPA countries produce more than 98 percent of oil in Africa, with a combined daily output of 10 million barrels.
