ATHENS, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Greek media has given extensive coverage to China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin's five-day visit to Greece.

The Greek national news agency AMNA closely followed Jia's trip, stressing the importance of strengthening ties for the benefit of both countries and people.

Leading Greek newspaper Eleftherotypia (Free Press) covered the meeting between Jia, the chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee and Greek President Karolos Papoulias on Monday.

Papoulias praised the "strategic partnership" between the two countries, underlining that China's interest in purchasing Greek state bonds is seen in Greece as a proof of true friendship by the Chinese people.

"We build a new partnership with China," read a headline in leading daily Ethnos (The Nation) on Tuesday, referring to a statement made by Michalis Chryssohoidis, Greek minister for regional development, competitiveness and merchant marine.

He made the statement on Monday during a visit with Jia at the Container Terminal in Piraeus, managed by Chinese company Cosco.

Financial news portal Capital focused on the economic cooperation memorandum signed by Chryssohoidis and Chinese Deputy Trade Minister Zhong Shan on Monday. They signed 4 business deals worth 537 million euros (747.5 million dollars U.S.).

Major newspapers Ta Nea (The News) and Kathimerini also run extensive stories on how debt-ridden Greece has pinned high hopes on boosting ties with China.

"Greek economy on the Silk Road" was the headline of an in-depth report in finance news daily Deal News over the weekend, as Jia arrived in Athens. It stressed that Greece was going all out to attract Chinese investments and boost bilateral relations.

A report in the weekly Proto Thema (Top Story) said Jia's visit would start a new chapter in bilateral relations.
