15 insurgents killed, 20 detained in 24 hours: Afghan Interior Ministry

KABUL, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police during series of operations carried out against anti-government militants over the past 24 hours have killed 15 insurgents and detained 20 others, a statement released by Interior Ministry on Wednesday said.

"The national police force in harmony with army and the NATO-led forces have eliminated 15 insurgents and captured 20 others over the past 24 hours during series of operations carried out across the country," the statement asserted.

One insurgent sustained injuries during the operations, it further said.

A large number of arms and ammunitions including 31 assault rifles and 36 anti-tank mines have also been seized by police over the mentioned period.

However, it did not say if there were any casualties on the security forces.

Taliban militants fighting Afghan and NATO-led troops have yet to make comment.
