Talent dearth stifles China's auto industry

11-02-2011 11:10 BJT

Beijing, Nov.2 (PD Online) --Statistics show that more that 30 percent of the auto industry employees abroad have a higher education background, while the number for China is merely less than 15 percent. Thus, shortage of talents is the greatest challenge for China to transform from a big auto-making country to a strong auto country with advanced technologies and superior management concepts.

According to the statistics, the total industrial output value for large-scale automobile enterprises in China reached more than 4.3 trillion yuan in 2010, and production and sales hit 18 million units, making China the world largest auto country in terms of production and marketing. However, compared with those developed countries, such as Germany, Japan and the United Stated, China still has plenty of room for improvement in technology, innovation and environment development.

By 2020, China's total number of automobiles will reach 200 million, and as many as 90 million people will work for the industry. Meanwhile, the following four kinds of talent will be required: advanced inter-disciplinary enterprise management with a background in the automotive industry as well as knowledge of international trade, law and marketing; senior research and development staff; professionals with knowledge of marketing, after-sales service, automobile culture and quality inspection as well as individuals acquainted with other countries' rules, and lastly professional designers and senior technical workers.
