RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Corinthians lost to bottom team America-MG in an away match on Sunday but still remain atop in the standings of the Brazilian soccer championship.

America-MG scored the match's first goal through penalty kick in the 34th minute, but Corinthians were also awarded a penalty kick 10 minutes later which helped the visiting team tie the match at 1-1.

America-MG struck the winner in the 87th minute when Amaral drove a free-kick past the defensive wall of Corinthians and a helpless keeper Julio Cesar.

Despite the embarrassing loss, Corinthians still lead the standings on 58 points while the impressive win did not help America-MG too much as the team still remain in the last place on 28 points.

Fluminense picked up a 2-1 win on road against Internacional.

Fluminense took the lead in the 17th minute by a header from Rafael Moura. However, Internacional's Oscar tied the match in the 37th minute.

Former Internacional player Rafael Sobis helped Fluminense reclaim the lead in the last minute of the first half as he angled a perfect shot past keeper Muriel for the match winner.

The victory lifts Fluminense to third place with 56 points. Internacional stands in seventh place with 51 points.

Flamengo pulled off an impressive 5-1 win over a visiting Cruzeiro.

Cruzeiro gave home fans an early worry when they scored the first goal in the 22nd minute when Anselmo Ramon concluded a fast-break by blowing the ball past reserve keeper Paulo Victor.

Flamengo's Deivid scored the equalizer in the 35th minute, drilling a ball from more than 30 meters out into the upper right corner of the Cruzeiro goal.

Thiago Neves scored a hat trick in the second half while Deivid struck again to secure the overwhelming victory.

In another high profile match, host Santos stomped Vasco da Gama 2-0 and crushed the visiting team's hopes of landing the first place in the standings.

Elsewhere, Palmeiras continued their slump with another home loss, this time falling 2-0 to Coritiba while Avai also conceded a home defeat, losing to Ceara 2-1. Atletico-PR scored a home win by defeating Atletico-GO 2-1.
