11-15-2011 15:46 BJT

ISLAMABAD, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- At least 16 militants were killed and 12 others injured in an operation launched by the security forces in Pakistan's northwest tribal area of Orakzai, reported local Urdu TV channel Duniya on Tuesday.

Six militant hideouts were also destroyed in the operation, said the report.

But the report failed to say when the operation was launched, nor did it mention the casualties on the side of the security forces.

Orakzai is one of the seven tribal areas in northwest Pakistan and it is the only tribal area that does not border Afghanistan.

The Pakistani army has fought several major wars against the militants hiding in the area.
